About the Group
The Stokesley Local History Group researches, records and shares the history of Stokesley and the surrounding area.
Our aims
The Group was established with a number of aims in mind, the main ones being:
- To document any archival sources of Stokesley history, be they physical documents or people's memories.
- To produce publications that document all aspects of Stokesley's history (e.g. public houses and the history of sports clubs).
- To arrange local exhibitions, with the aim of making the history of the area more accessible, and to gather further material which may aid our research.
- To liaise with local experts to both preserve artefacts of interest and to further the Group's research.
- To use the Facebook group 'Friends of Stokesley History' for publicity.
Meetings
The Group meets on the 3rd Monday of the month in the Globe Community Library in Town Close, Stokesley, except on Bank Holidays and not in July, August or December. Meetings normally run from 1.30pm to 3pm.
It is hoped to occasionally invite outside speakers, but Group members will talk about their current projects at most meetings. Events are announced in the local press, in notices around town and in our own publicity. A small yearly membership fee is charged to cover the cost of consumables.
